Few people can lay claim to having a successful career in entertainment as Proverb. The host and co-producer of Idols has leapt from strength to strength over the years and continues to grow into a household name across Mzansi's television screens.

But ascending to his height has been no easy feat. It took equal parts focus, determination and bravery to look opportunities dead in the eyes and take them head on. It perhaps all started when the hip hop artist took a chance and went for the Idols auditions. The gamble paid off though as he remains the longest running presenter on the critically acclaimed show.

So what if you have big dreams too and would like to carve your own lane just like Proverb did? We sat down with our co-producer to get some tips and pearls of wisdom that could be invaluable to your journey.

Take a look at some of our favourite Proverb quotes.

"I took a chance, low and behold; it's proven to be the best gig of my career"

"My tip to becoming a presenter is watch all your favourites and then be nothing like them... everyone has a uniqueness."

"The legacy I'd like to leave behind is to let everybody know it is possible to not only go after your dreams but to also achieve them."
